2024 Chevy Silverado EV and the Future of Electric Power

Chevrolet has provided a plan for their upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado: to release it with further electric technology. Chevrolet has been in the ‘truck war’ for several years, and one of the biggest aspects to keep the company stay afloat is about the electric technology. Due to emission regulations, further future technology and its development, and also harsh competitions with the others, the existence of EVs is getting important. And smart auto manufacturers should be able to see the potential opportunity from such a condition.

The Upcoming Production Plan

The 2024 Chevy Silverado would be designed as an electric vehicle (EV) which would compete against Tesla Cybertruck, Rivian R1T, and Ford F-150 Lightning. According to ChevyOpens in a new tab., the upcoming EV would include some modern technologies and advanced technologies. Set to be released in 2023, the vehicle offers all wheel driving system and electric fur wheel driving system. The price starts from around $40,000 although the details about the techs and specs are still unclear.

Powertrain and Performance

In terms of powertrain and performance, the Silverado EV is claimed to be promising. With 664 hp and exceeding 780 Nm of torque, what can you ask for more? Moreover, the company estimates that the massive truck is able to reach 60 mph in around 4.5 seconds. This is quite surprising considering the massive size. For the towing ability, the truck has at least 1,300 pounds and maximum of 10,000 pounds of weight. These are the arrangements for the RST model.

In the meanwhile, the WT model (which is the low end starting trim), would have different arrangements. It is able to generate 510 hp and 615 Nm of torque. It is able to deal with minimum 8,000 pounds and maximum 1,200 pounds of weight. According to their official press release, Chevrolet stated that they plan on releasing a model that is able to tackle with maximum 20,000 pounds of weight.

Battery and Abilities

All of the trims would be constructed on Ultium Platform although they may be designed in different trims and arrangements. The RST First Edition comes with Ultium 24-module battery pack, although Chevy hasn’t said anything details about the size of the pack. Both WT and RST models support (public) DC fast charge, up to 350kW of speed. Just from 10 minutes of charge, you should be able to cover 100 miles of distance quite easily. Silverado EV can even charge another vehicle if you have the charge cord.

Design and Cabin

In terms of design, you can tell that the 2024 Silverado is aggressive. It is a tall pickup truck that is surprisingly pretty quick and agile. The front design is especially designed to direct the air efficiently to the side, which would reduce turbulence and drag significantly. It is said that the WT is said to have the lowest drag coefficients in pickup industry.

The EV will only provided as a crew cab, with plenty of headroom for the rear passengers. On the front side, there would be a specialized eTrunk, which is a special compartment (which is weatherproof and lockable) that is able to accommodate cargo. The bed is 5 feet 11 inches, and it is expandable up to 9 feet, thanks to the multiflex midgate.

For the cargo, you should be able to find a big diagonal touchscreen display (up to 17 inches) that is close to driver instrument screen with its 11 inches in size. The cabin will also support hands-free start and also keyless entry.

In the overall system, the Silverado EV seems promising. With the improved technologies, better design, and high-end electric power, you can expect more promising end. We should know more about 2024 Chevy Silverado once the company provides one.
