Thing are still not clear about the existence of 2024 Kia Stinger because there have been too many different rumors about the existence. At first, there was a rumor about Kia discontinuing the Stinger, but the timeline isn’t clear enough. Afterward, there was a rumor about Kia is positive not to discontinue the Stinger, which means that the company will keep on producing the vehicle, no matter what.
And now, there is another rumor that states that Kia is positively discontinuing the Stinger. Although the Stinger is claimed not going to stop before the 2024, it seems that the initial plan has changed. Initially, they would stop producing the Stinger AFTER they have released the 2024 model. But now, it seems that they will stop the production even before the 2024. So, what’s going to happen with the 2024 model, really?
The Many Rumors about Kia Stinger
As it was mentioned before, there are too many different rumors about the Stinger, so it’s quite logical if people are confused of what to expect. Originally, Kia is said to stay producing the Stinger, at least up until they release the 2024 Kia Stinger model. But then they decided that they will stop producing the first (and also the only generation of the) Stinger in 2022 (the second quarter of it). Those who expect the Stinger to remain on production until 2024 should be ready to be disappointed.
According to the sources, in July 2021, Kia released their (production) plans (for the 2022 production year) for all of their manufacturing plants in South Korea, and it includes the Sohari Plant. From it, they also uncovered the bad news related to Stinger. If everything follows the plan, Kia will stop producing the Stinger starting on the second quarter (of 2022) after they have made some adjustments. The sales numbers have never been promising or good, after all.
The Manufacturing Plant
Kia has their own plans concerning the Sohari Plant function. In the early 2022, they will transform it so they can begin producing the mass variants of electric vehicles, including the Carnival Hybrid. It means that everything is official. The fate of the Stinger has been confirmed and formalized.
Stinger was first introduced to the public in 2017. It was unique and different from any existing lineup ever made by Kia. They didn’t have any rear wheel driving system sedan back then, except for their flagship K9, which is also known as the K900 for the overseas markets. Because of it, Kia launched a mid-range fastback and also dynamic design, which is almost the same as the K7 but with rear wheel driving system, longer wheelbase, and also V6 has twin turbo unit with 3.3 liter capacity.
But then (still in the same year), Genesis launched the sports G70 sedan, which is designed on the same powertrain and platform. It caused some changes in the preference and mood. Back then in 2017, two cars were launched. The Stinger had better sales numbers than the G70, but the dominance of G70 continues up to the 2018.
In 2020, Kia launched the so-called Stinger Meister with turbo engine of 2.5 liter capacity. It’s meant to modify the vehicle, making it more appealing for the market. But their attempt failed and they didn’t succeed in improving the sales number.
What’s Next Then?
If you ask whether there would be the 2024 model for Kia, it’s still unclear. Rumors even state that there would be a 2023 model, but others say that there won’t be any. Some rumors say that Kia would replace the Stinger with electric vehicle, but there hasn’t been any confirmation about it just yet. So, no need to wait up for 2024 Kia Stinger.
