There are reasons why 2024 VW Bus would be created as the next EV model, especially for families. Volkswagen has seen the potential of a certain market for families with electric technology. Moreover, the Bus incorporates vintage and retro design of the iconic Microbus Type 2. Up until now, complete details haven’t been provided. However, more information is revealed little by little. For instance, the all-electric unit would be able to cover 300 miles of distance. The interior cabin would have more versatile seating arrangements, and the exterior would come with nostalgic aesthetic. There are more details about the modern Bus that we still wait for, but there have been some details that have been revealed.
The Upcoming Plan for 2024 Model
For now, the ID. Buzz is only available as the prototype, but VW has officially confirmed that their 2023 model would be sold in America as 2024 model. The prototype offers innovative features and futuristic technology.
Trim and Prices
For now, it seems that the Microbus would only be available as the ID. Buzz model. Details about trim levels or cost haven’t been available just yet. The EVs market condition may lead the car to have a starting price of around $40,000. Considering the Microbus’ design as a van, it’s possible that Volkswagen may offer it as a passenger van or a cargo van, or even both.
Performance and Powertrain
The 2024 VW Bus would be coming with MEB (Modular Electric Drive) platform from VW. This construction has been used by several products, including the e-tron Audi crossover and ID.4 VW crossover. The European market will get ID.Buzz for both passenger and commercial versions, while American market will only have the passenger long-wheelbase type.
The basic trim would be coming with 200 hp of output and rear wheel driving system. If you want higher power and all wheel driving system, then you should go with the higher trims. When the bus underwent testing stage, the prototype vehicle was the short wheelbase with smaller battery (which would be offered for the American market). Although it may be shorter from the European version, it won’t compromise the comfort or convenience.
The battery is set at 48 kWh, which is expandable up to 100 kWh. Thanks to this battery capacity, the Bus is able to cover 200 and 340 miles of distance. But then again, these are the numbers for the (European) WLT cycle. The company said that those using DC fast charging system can expect 80% of charge in only 30 minutes.
What about fuel economy system? Unfortunately, VW hasn’t released official announcement about it. But with the electric technology and everything, it is expected to be highly efficient, which means that the fuel economy system should be satisfactory.
The Interior Cabin
One of the greatest strength about the Microbus is the spacious cabin. It’s not only spacious; it’s cavernous. The interior is also configurable, which means that you can enjoy the flexible arrangement. The van comes with three rows systems, and the seats are easily spun around – and it includes the front seats. The seats can also be removed completely or laid down. Thanks to this system, there are countless variations that provide limitless room for stuff, cargo, and activities.
The center console is movable. It also slides easily (forward and backward) within its track. It even has a table! The cabin also includes fold away steering wheel and also display with AR technology. It’s only logical if the Bus has a trunk. Expect the Bus to come with various technologies that cover advanced connectivity and infotainment. We should have known more about 2024 VW Bus once the info is available.
